With COVID-19 still monopolizing the headlines, its easy to forget about the common cold and season flu. The best protection from these infectious microbial organisms is vaccination. Although flu season is wrapping up, it is still recommended to get vaccinated if you have not done so this flu season. Regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, thankfully the US is rolling them out as quickly as possible in phases of priority (see the CDC website for more info). However, these vaccines cannot offer 100% protection, although it is thought that the severity of the illness may be minor after receiving the vaccine. So what can we do to naturally treat any mild symptoms that may occur? One oldie but goodie is hot tea!
Some good teas to help soothe those mild discomforts of the cold and flu are mint, ginger, chamomile, and citrus infused teas, to name a few. I remember working prior to COVID-19 (when you were not required to stay home for a mild cough or runny nose) and I could feel my self coming down with something. My pharmacy technician went to Starbucks and bought me my now go to tea, the "Medicine ball". With the need to minimize my budget and keep distance when feeling ill, I begin making my own version of the tea. Here is the recipe, let me know what you think!
